After SVP and other street vendor advocates voiced their concerns about new health grades to the Health Department, the NYCHD instilled protections to ensure that no street vendor's privacy could be compromised in the process.
On one Saturday each month, a group of SVP volunteers get together to walk the streets and do outreach and recruitment. Apart from Saturday outreach, our teams of volunteers, students, interns and others help planning meetings, shooting videos, making phone calls, writing legal briefs, and doing all kinds of other stuff.
When Walid Abdelwahab was wrongfully arrested after a local business owner tried to illegally stop him from vending, he turned to our Street Vendor Project for help.
Before turning to our Safety Net Project for help, Ms. C - a survivor of domestic violence - had her application for benefits denied six consecutive times.
