The 2022 TCS New York City Marathon:

A Good Time, for a Great Cause!

On Sunday, November 6th, #TeamUJC is back to run the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon! Read below to meet our runners, and fill in the form to the right if you want to support #TeamUJC as they raise money for our vulnerable clients.

Meet our team

Annie G.

Why I’m Running: “I hope to use my law degree to advocate on behalf of those impacted by the criminal and immigration legal systems, so UJC’s mission aligns closely with my own values. Running with UJC would be an especially meaningful way for me to fulfill my goal of completing a marathon because it would allow me to give back to an organization that has taught me so much.”

Why I’m Running: “The Urban Justice Center has provided a voice for the voiceless. Marginalized groups deserve representation, support, and to be heard. UJC’s work is nothing short of honorable, and I am happy to support them!”

Dan M.

Why I’m Running: “I am thrilled to be running and raising money for UJC. I believe the real work towards a more equitable society starts on the ground level. UJC puts in that work every day. Protecting NYC’s most vulnerable, providing legal aid in a system built on marginalizing, and advocating for policies that will help level the playing field!”

Jason R.

Why I’m Running: “I am running for UJC because we as a family believe in UJC’s mission – fueling social change.  NYC is near and dear to our hearts.  My wife grew up in a housing project in NYC and experienced first-hand the importance of organizations like UJC standing with the marginalized, ensuring every person’s rights are protected.   I consider it an honor to run with the UJC team, it’s an opportunity for me, my family, and friends to support and spread the word of all the great things UJC is doing in NYC and across this amazing country that we are all fortunate to live in.”

Jimme R.

Why I’m Running: “The UJC walks the walk in fighting for the under-represented and much needed social changes. The least I can do is run the run in support of them!”

Keiler B.

Why I’m Running: “As a public defender I have a strong belief in the importance of uplifting and supporting the most vulnerable among us. I’m honored to raise money for an organization that does just that, and one that democratizes access to social justice organizing.”

Matt S.

Why I’m Running: “I’m running with UJC in order to support their innovative approach to tackling today’s social justice issues. These past few years have highlighted how much work still needs to be done so I hope you can support the cause and help UJC fuel social change within the NYC community!”

Molly S.

Why I’m Running: “Because I believe in the mission of UJC! The myriad of progressive initiatives that this team has funded undoubtedly improved the lives of some the most marginalized members of our community in New York: such as providing affordable legal counsel, access to housing, and cultivating support networks for people fleeing persecution or unsafe living situations. These are the tentpoles of a supportive and inclusive community and I would love to help fundraise on behalf of that vision!”

I believe equity, justice, and access to resources are basic human rights in which UJC delivers to the those they serve. Why I’m Running:I’m one of the many Australians who love NYC (like, really love). I’ve been lucky enough to spend time in NYC for work & holidays and even though it’s the greatest city in the world, it’s no secret there’s work to do. I hope by running for the Urban Justice Center I can not only contribute to that effort in some small way but I can also show my son that we do not have to accept the status quo – we can make a change and fight for justice in so many ways – even from the other side of the world!

Why I’m Running: “I am so excited to be able to run – and raise funds – for The Urban Justice Center as they provide needed support to our most vulnerable neighbors, and am consistently impassioned by my experiences with the amazing team at UJC dedicated to using collective fundraising efforts, people-power, (and miles!) to deliver wholehearted advocacy and crucial change needed in our hometown.”

Why I’m Running:Everything that UJC stands for excites me and makes me want to be involved in the change of this world. I have seen the hardships of which people become victims and I want to help reduce that in any way that I can. Although this is a small step, I am excited to be involved.

Olivia H.

Why I’m Running:My day to day work is focused on creating more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environments, systems, and processes in the workplace. UJC’s mission aligns with my profession and passion. UJC aims to only advance those from marginalized backgrounds but build a pipeline of social justice leaders to build sustainable solutions for a more equitable world.

Why I’m Running: “Participating in society means giving, humbly, of what you have with pure intention and hope. I’m running for UJC because I experienced poverty and could not access caring legal advice when my family needed it. Every mile I train for and run is a humble offering of pure intention and hope that good people pushing for their chance in life are met with meaningful support in challenging circumstances. ”
