Vanessa Selbst is a professional poker player. At the age of 29, with over $8M in career earnings, she is the highest-earning female poker player of all time. During a brief lapse in her career as a poker player, Vanessa attended and graduated from Yale Law School. During her time at Yale, she worked in the public defense, post-9/11 civil liberties, and LGBT clinics, and also volunteered with an attorney in New Haven who worked on police misconduct litigation.
Having grown up in Brooklyn and then Montclair, NJ, Vanessa is thrilled to be back living in New York City. When she isn't traveling the world attending various poker tournaments, she dedicates much of her time to fighting for social justice causes. Vanessa has known about the Urban Justice Center for years and has always supported its mission and its causes, so she jumped (very high) at the opportunity to join the board. She can't wait to get involved in both fundraising for and working more actively on projects at UJC.
