Sara Solfanelli is the Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel of the Urban Justice Center. She started her career as the Director of International Programs at Women's Campaign International, a non-profit dedicated to empowering women in emerging democracies. After graduating from law school, Sara practiced employment law and litigation at Choate Hall & Stewart LLP in Boston, and later at Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP in New York City. While at Schulte, Sara provided extensive pro bono services to a variety of non-profit clients and helped start Foundation Rwanda, where she remains Director and Secretary. Foundation Rwanda provides financial support for the education of children who were born from rape during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda and for trauma counseling and financial training for their mothers. She later leveraged her expertise, working as a global HR director for media and advertising agencies in London and as SVP, Counsel for the Americas at WPP Group, the world's largest marketing communications network.
Sara's passion for social justice and helping needy communities is exemplified by her active involvement with non-profit organizations throughout her professional career and serving as a volunteer tutor for the GO Project, which provides programming and support to underserved children in lower Manhattan. She is also a founding Board member of Stand Up! Girls, a nonprofit organization that works to educate, inspire and equip girls from underserved communities with the communication skills necessary to succeed in and lead male-dominated workplaces by teaching them how to create and perform stand-up comedy routines
