One of the city’s most popular coffee spots, La Colombe, is opening up its first-ever New York City roastery. The 783 square-foot space, at 95 East Houston Street, on the Lower East Side, will be the company’s ninth New York cafe to debut. The new roastery, hoping to capture grocery shoppers, will be situated inside of the Bowery Whole Foods, which already carries canned versions of its coffee.
According to a representative for the company, the new roastery will also offer pastries by Clinton Hill’s the Good Batch. Likewise, there will be a new blend made exclusively for this location dubbed the “Bowery Blend” with notes of chocolate, almond butter, and kiwi. The space is slated to open in the fall.
La Colombe follows in the footsteps of several of its competitors including Brooklyn Roasting Company, and newer, small-batch NYC coffee brands like Parlor and Sey with adding a customer-facing roastery cafe to its operations.
Play along on a street vendor scavenger hunt
Non-profit the Street Vendor Project, which advocates for the rights of New York City’s street vendors, has launched a new way to support its members. On November 14, the organization is hosting a food-centric scavenger hunt. There’s a mobile app to download that maps out where to find samples across the city. Those interested in playing along can currently sign up on the site and create their own team (the barrier to entry is that you must raise $26) or join an existing one. The kick-off will be at Corona Plaza with over 80 participating vendors.
Alleged art thieves strike at a popular Williamsburg dance spot
Restaurant the Four Horsemen took to Instagram earlier this morning to announce that it had allegedly been the subject of an art heist at its next door club Nightmoves. According to the social media post, two customers who were not on the club’s invite-only list lifted a “sentimental” ceramic sculpture of a naked body back on October 1st.
Big Donut takes Queens with free sweets
Krispy Kreme has opened the doors on its first-ever Queens outpost at 22-02 31st Street in Astoria. According to Time Out New York, customers who stop by this week have the chance to win a ticket that allows them to get a dozen free glazed doughnuts every month this year. The shop will also be selling several new Halloween-themed flavors available through Saturday, October 30.
